A poem of endeavour and valour by Finchy the Bard
Buoyed by the absence of a travelling Weeble, 9 Narwhals went to New Malden To play Kingston 3 in the Tom Dwyer Cup And battle in this intimidating caldron.
Their pool is almost the worst in the league, And their thirds looked suspiciously first like, With a 7 goal handicap to overcome, What could there be to dislike?
The Narwhals struck first, through an Oggy pit goal, Despite us attacking the shallow end, That was it for the quarter, despite other chances, we hoped this wasn’t a portend.
Oggy had his second with a lovely back shot, Before Kingston scored with a blinder Our drop defence wasn’t working too well And Rob’s shooting needed a range finder.
5 goals down as the clock struck half time, the Narwhals had plenty to do, Four unanswered goals and another clean sheet, Saw our boys begin to push through.
Two quick goals from Dan and Nick, And the Narwhals were finally ahead! Kingston struck back with a rare man up goal Before Corporal Bummage put the tie back to bed.
But then came an equalising goal for Kingston, Time was running short for our advances, A fabulous save by Bob in their goal, Had surely scuppered our chances?
But Dan flicked the rebound over a defender, And smashed it in at the far post, The Narwhals had succeeded against all the odds, And now a cup semi they can boast.
The scoring was MOSTLY by Dan and by Nick, And only two exclusions we suffered Hence half the team got mislaid in Lisbon, Their whereabouts yet to be discovered.
Man of the match is shared this week, Between Dan and Nick who got five Moment was given to Dan’s wonder goal That kept the Narwhal cup hopes alive.
Fluffer this week, was a unanimous call, With no need for the Merstham Posse to guide Dr Loveless’ moniker of ‘Woody’ it seems, Should re-branded ‘too high or too wide’.
So there endeth a tale of valour and high skill, With the Narwhals winning this parley, Stay tuned for more adventures of our favourite team, And once again ‘Forza Narwali’!!
